Derek Fields

Director of Bands

Derek Fields is an alumnus of Fort Walton Beach High School and the Viking Band. He received a Bachelors of Music Ed. Degree with emphasis in Percussion under Dr. Thomas Fraschillo and Dr. John Wooton at The University of Southern Mississippi between 2005-2010.

Derek was a performing member of the Madison Scouts (Snare 05-06’), and The Cadets (Snare: 07’-08’), under the instruction of Colin McNutt. After his performing opportunities, Derek was able to teach as a percussion technician with World Class percussion programs all across the Drumcorps/WGI activity, and High School Bands across the country. ​Derek has been the Asst. Director of Bands and the Director of Percussion since 2011-12, and is currently in his 7th year of being blessed to work with the Viking Band.

Alissa Kanocz

Assistant Director of Bands

Alissa Kanocz is an alumnus of Fort Walton Beach High School and the Viking Band. She received a Bachelors of Music Ed. Degree with emphasis in Saxophone under Patrick Meighan, Patrick Dunnigan, David Plack and Steve Kelly at Florida State University between 2012-2017.

JAMIE FIELDS

Color Guard Director

Jamie started coaching the Fort Walton Beach HS Color Guard in 2012. She began her marching career at the age of 12 in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. She marched for 10 years in several different groups including; Dutch Boy Drum and Bugle Corps, Cadets of Dutch Boy Winter Guard, The Ventures Winter Guard, and The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. After she aged out in 2008 she began her teaching career in Canada, working with many different groups there. In 2012 she moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL where she began her journey with the FWBHS Color Guard. Jamie absolutely loves being a part of the Viking organization! She has learned so much from her students and both band directors and wants to see the success of the programs continue to grow, evolve, and honor traditions.
